Energy Efficiency and Home Performance Train-the-Trainer for CA Community College Faculty

 

Free, One-Week session, August 3-7, 2009

at Ohlone College, Newark Campus

 

The California Building Performance Contractors Association (CBPCA), in coordination with PG&E and Foothill-De Anza CCD, will deliver a five day training course to California Community College faculty, consisting of 3 days of Home Energy Upgrades (Level 1) and 2 days of Home Energy Rating System (HERS) training, with the HERS certification written test at the end on Friday afternoon.
 
Part-time and full-time instructors within the CCCs are eligible to participate.
 
Instructors who complete this training will be eligible to receive a copy of the curriculum for use at their California Community College.  A licensing agreement with CBPCA is required, but no fees are charged for use of the curriculum.  Graduates of this train-the-trainer course will be eligible for additional training opportunities including field assessment courses, advanced topic courses, and remediation field camps in real houses..
 
The hands-on portion of the HERS training includes demonstration of a blower door and duct leakage testing.  Participants within a reasonable distance who are willing to offer their home for a free audit on that Friday a.m. August 7th will get priority enrollment.   Ideal homes have central A/C, accessible equipment (preferably not in the attic or crawlspace), and a homeowner comfortable with a dozen strangers in their home for three hours.  Contact Catherine Ayers, AyersCatherine@fhda.edu

Cost:  The five-day training course is FREE to CCC participants.  Participants are responsible for their travel and lodging expenses.   Daily lunch is provided.

Trainers:  Rick Chitwood and Greg Davis are both excellent trainers.  Assistant trainers will help with the hands-on portion of the HERS training.
